Hurricane Sandy

To quote chiro-sis, "If I didn't know it was a hurricane, I would think it was just raining." A lot. Other than that, I didn't lose power. I didn't have to use the water I had in jugs. I'm v. grateful! In fact, this is the extent of the damage:

See the branch across the driveway? Yeah. That was it.

Bingo-Mango-Tango-Dingo

Nephew Ro LOVES Bingo. He calls her Mango.
Mum: I quite like Mango!
Brother Atlasta: It's Dingo.
Me:

Anyway, Ro likes to walk her "by mysep." She's so good with him!

Heading up the driveway.

She doesn't pull.

Saying hullo to Tabby. "Watch your phalanges, Rowan!" I say when he's around the cat.

Heading back toward the house.

Ro runs everywhere!
Trying to get Bingo to go up Maggie's ramp.
Bingo set Rowan straight: we always go to the back yard after we're in the front.

They're BOTH looking down: "What's this?"

Ro says, "Tum on, Mango!"

Tabby comes to join them.

Hullo.

Back up to the house. Tabby leads the way.

And sits on the porch . . .

Ro waits behind Tabby for Bingo to come up the stairs.
A coupla days later, we popped over to chiro-sister's & Ro wanted to walk Bingo, of course:

Running down the hill together.
Mum is at Ruth's doing some construction in the basement; drywall & whatnot:

Bingo says hello to Mum as she's working.

In the back yard. Hullo.

Bingo!  Hullo.  :-)
In preparation of Hurricane Sandy, I gave Bingo a bath. If my power goes out, I want her to be clean & fluffy so I don't have to hear the she-smells-like-a-dog comments. As I've mentioned before, she's not a fan of the bath. I got a new hand held shower because I thought it might make it easier for her baths. Meh. She doesn't have to stand in water, but it's still not so easy. She wouldn't come down the hallway even with the promise of cheese in my hand beckoning her. So I pulled out the big guns & unscrewed the lid off her peanut butter jar. Well. That did it! She clicky-clacked down the hallway to the bathroom. It seems she will do anything for peanut butter. Good to know! Once in the tub, I smeared the peanut butter all along the top of the bathtub so she could happily lick while I got her all soapy & wet. [Insert eye-roll from Mum & an Eeewwww!] The actual bathing part doesn't take too long; it's all the preparation and then coaxing into the tub, keeping in the tub, and then letting her shake water all over the bathroom once out of the tub/drying off, and then the cleaning of the bathroom post Bingo-bath. Phew! Done.

Will have more autumny-pix in the next post. Even with the impending doom of a hurricane, we've had some really BEAUTIFUL days!

Bingo Monday

Mum: I thought you weren't eating ice cream.
Me: I'm not. Except when I am.

And lucky Bingo . . .

. . . gets to lick out the container.

Slurp. (Photo doctored by John Morgan--no link).
YUM. And somebody needs a pedicure!
Last week, Tuesday to be precise, fall officially began. Something shifted, and all of a sudden, the trees were showing off their fall foilage. Here's Bingo heading into the woods in the back yard:

GLORIOUS tulip poplar trees.

Red bud leaf.  :-)
 Heading up the driveway:

 More leaves:

Another jaunt to the back yard:
Tabby Bobcat leading the way.

See that brilliant red leaf that is hanging over Tabby? It's poison ivy.
I was trying to get him out of it, but of course he was having none of it. Plus I'm wrangling Bingo on her leash while simultaneously trying to get a good photo! This must be my lame super power. Anyway, the thing about animals going thru poison ivy is that the oil from the leaves gets on their fur, so even if they don't get poison ivy, if you pet them, you can get it.

And back to Bingo. I just got a 25 lb. bag of Pamela's GF bread flour mix. I was transferring it to containers and I spilled some on Bingo:
She didn't mind, and perhaps you can't see it--but the flour is on her ear & sprinkled onto her back. It reminded me of a time I had a similar mishap with my dog Barkley when I was making bread, only she was COVERED, poor thing!
On another walk in the back:
See Tabby eyeing the leash?
 This is what he does:

The purpose of the leash is for his amusement.
Bingo got her first adjustment from chiro-sis Ruth yesterday:
Ruth palpating.
Click-click with the activator.

More palpating.

How ya doin', Bingo?

Ruth muscle-checking that Bingo doesn't need any more treatment.
My dear friend from Luray, Lena, came for a vizzie this weekend. Sorry--no pix of her with Bingo. She has known all my dogs: Barkley & Remi, Maggie & Millie, and now Bingo--whom she adores! We went to Petco together and she helped me pick out some nail clippers so I can clip Bingo's nails. Lena showed me how--no pictures, tho because I had to hold Bingo. Poor thing! She was not a fan! I was giving her treats as Lena was doing it, and she was getting my hand all spitty while I was trying to hold her still. I'll have to get a close-up photo of Bingo's back legs, because she has dew claws on all her legs, including her hind legs. It almost looks like she has opposable thumbs back there. Anyway, Lena said I need to clip every week. We'll see how that goes! And that was our week; enjoying walks and the beautiful fall colours. I have scads more pix, but I'm going to save them for another post so that I can get this blog post posted!

Bingo in the Fall

Sorry I missed Bingo's post yesterday!  But I have lots of photos to make up for it! We've had another great week together. Here we are a few days ago on an early morning walk down to the lake:

The leaves are just beginning to turn.

I have to be careful about Bingo walking on the side of the road because sometimes there's broken glass, which I pick up when I can.

Misty morning lake.
 Here we encounter something new!

A neighbor's fall decorations.

Bingo always takes time out to smell the flowers.  *sniff*

Heading back along the lake.

Along the concrete . . . whatever it's called.

Bingo wanting to investigate the dog sounds up the hill.
Yesterday afternoon, heading up the driveway:

Tabby always comes to join us. And nestle into the dirt.

Fall!  is falling. It was the first day where the trees are really showing off their colours!
Bingo weaving in & out of the grass.
See her leash? This is an endless source of fascination for Tabby.
 Aaaand to the back yard:
She LOVES the woods! So many smells to smell. Tabby joins us, of course.
Sorta shot of the lake. You can see it better in the winter, of course.
And this is what Bingo looks like after our walks:
Before the brush down; little sticker things.
 This morning's walk:

If I can't get Tabby back in the house, I don't go down to the lake with Bingo. Tabby would follow, and there are too many cars. He doesn't go near the road and I don't ever want to encourage him to do so!

Into the woods in front of my house. See Tabby eyeing the leash?

*sniff*
Aaaaand Tabby going for the leash!
Bingo oblivious.
 Back into my driveway:
LOVE this tree with all the different colours!

Show off.  ;-)
 Into the back yard:

More fall foilage:

One of my favourite trees all year round: Red Bud. GORGEOUS in the spring and so sweet in the fall with their heart-shaped leaves. The trees really took a beating with the caterpillars this year!

Rows of hearts.

Bingo and Tabby.
I'm back and forth between an invisible fence and a fence-fence; advantages to both. I have to keep her on the leash because she'll run off after deer thru the woods. I'm sure she'd come back, but I don't want to take the chance of losing her. An invisible fence is easier with the mowing, but doesn't keep things out--deer, other dogs, etc. A physical fence will take some time to build; but I think I'm ready to be able to open the back door and let her out. Plus, she likes to run & she can't do that on the leash. No, Mum. I'm not running with her!
Shot of lake thru woods.
Bingo sees Neighbor Thomas in his back yard:
Standing all alert-like. Notice the leash?
I didn't capture it exactly, but you can sort of see Tabby's eyes; they dilate right before he pounces. (Gah! just wrote she again)!
Getting ready to pounce on the leash.
Here's another shot of him watching with eyes fully dilated:
Good Halloween pic!

So those are the pix from my lil point 'n' shoot.  Here are the ones from my fancy-pants camera:

Vizzie with Pioneer Sister & kiddliewinks this past weekend. Here's Dimples walking Bingo at  Brother Atlasta's.

Bingo leading the way.
At the end of her walk, inside sacked out:
Zzzzzz . . .
 And then, back home:
She sleeps in a little ball, all curled up. I woke her with the camera.

Stretching out . . .

"Well, since you're here . . . belly rub?"
Pioneer Sister came to see my house for the first time and we were standing in the living room chatting. I mentioned something about the car and Bingo all of a sudden got very excited. Pioneer Sister said, "Well, she knows the word CAR!" Other words in her vocabulary: WALK, FOOD, TREAT, OUT, PEANUT BUTTER. Such a smart cookie!
